Jussie Smollett: Participant in own attack?

The speculations around the attack on Jussie Smollett being a hoax is nothing new. People have been suspicious of the attack for a while. Furthermore, poeple were already critical when the investigations seemed to go nowhere and then became even more so after Smollett failed to provide “sufficient” phone records to police. The investigation turned over a new leaf when police brought their “persons of interest” in to question. The alleged attackers are a pair of brothers who were coming back from Nigeria when Police apprehended them at the Chicago O’Hare Airport. Police released the brothers after questioning without any charges. Anthony Guglielmi a spokes person of police revealed in a tweet that police found a “new evidence” and further investigation was still underway.

On Sturday, Guglielmi said, “We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation. We’ve reached out to the Empire cast member’s attorney to request a follow-up interview,” However, he did not specify how or why the “trajectory of the investigation” has changed. Recently a source from Deadline said, “the new direction of the investigation is now based on the premise that Mr. Smollett was an active participant in the incident.” Smollett allegedly staged the attack. He also allegedly paid the pair $3500 before leaving for Nigeria and promised another $500 when they came back. The brothers also told detectives that Smollett had paid for the rope as well. Smollett’s attorney obviously denies the actors involvement. He says, “He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack,” He further adds, “Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.” On the other hand Smollett says he is the victim and that he has no about the attackers. He says, “For me when that was released I was like, OK. We’re getting somewhere,” Smollett said. “I don’t have any doubt in my mind that that’s them. Never did.”
